"Koda"

When Koda was a puppy he was very shy and quiet.  I decided to get him involved in agility because I was doing it with my older boy Cain and it was a lot of fun.  I also saw how much Cain loved it.  The first session with Koda I remember thinking to myself... "What in the world was I thinking when I put him in this sport?"  Well, as we got closer and closer to the end of the session I realized he was enjoying it for the most part.  He was still very cautious going over all the obstacles.  I thought, "Well he likes it but he will never compete."  I mean, after all, he HATED it when the Teeter would bang.  Well, let me just tell you...  Boy was I wrong.  Koda has since then, gained a lot of confidence and come out of his shell.  No one that knows Koda now or watches him in the ring would think he was ever shy or timid.  He absolutely loves the sport and he just can't wait to get out there.  I am very proud of my boy, he has his Novice Agility Title, Novice Agility Jumpers Title, Canine Good Citizen Title, and he is a Certified Therapy Dog with Therapy Dogs International.

Southcrest's Raising Cain

"Cain"

Cain was my first Sheltie and boy was I in for it.  This dog never left my side, still won't if he can help it.  You might say he is a little spoiled.  Well, right from the start this dog was in need of a job.  He was too smart for his own good.  And boy did he have energy.  I couldn't get him to sit still for nothing.  So I thought "Agility", that's what this dog needs.  Cain was at a bit of a disadvantage or so most people thought.  He had to jump a much higher jump height than most shelties because of his size.  We wound up running against Border Collies and Aussies all the time.  Well, let's just say that didn't intimidate him at all.  Cain's first trial he ran so fast his first run he got 2nd place in Touch n Go.  And he went on that weekend to receive another 2nd place and a 1st place.  Unfortunately due to an injury Cain has been retired from competition.  As soon as we get him all healed up he has a future career as a therapy dog.  We would like to help brighten the day of those who feel there is not much hope in their fight against Cancer.  We had a very close friend pass this year after a long bout with it and we will never forget her.
